Pre-Discharge Financial Education Workshop
Once you have completed the pre-filing counseling session and filed the bankruptcy petition with the court, you may attend the Pre-Discharge Financial Education Workshop also offered by our agency. Cheryl McKeiver, our Director of Education will conduct the two hour course in a group, classroom setting at our 50 Chestnut Plaza Office in downtown Rochester, and cover the following topics:
- The "Economic Way of Thinking", or choosing between wants and needs.
- Developing sound financial habits for handling money.
- Understanding and developing budgeting skills and understanding financial management concepts.
- Setting long and short term goals and planning to achieve them
- Understanding and using credit.
- Credit reports and credit scores and the laws that regulate and protect.
- Rebuilding credit after bankruptcy.
- Predatory lending and identity theft.
- Insurance, the types, costs and amounts you need.
