NEW YORK AGENCY’S LOCAL FINANCIAL EDUCATION PROGRAM SERVING YOUTH HIGHLIGHTED DURING
NATIONAL CONFERENCE CALL
Silver Spring, MD – As a premier provider of financial education in this country and possessing a deep network of counselors and educators, the NFCC (National Foundation for Credit Counseling) is holding a national conference call to highlight some of the programs and initiatives carried out in communities across the country every day. These programs help consumers navigate financial emergencies and further enhance their level of financial education.
CCCS of Rochester, based in Rochester, NY, will be discussing their “After School Financial Literacy Program.”
The conference call is being held on September 1, 2010 at 2 p.m. ET, and will feature programs specifically focusing on youth and young adult programs. The call will include invited participants from other NFCC Member Agencies, stakeholders, creditors, policymakers, partners and others in the credit counseling and financial education sector.
The NFCC Member Agencies participating and the programs and initiatives they will be discussing include:
CCCS of Northern Colorado and Southeast Wyoming, (CCCS of Northern Colorado and Southeast Wyoming is headquartered in Fort Collins, CO) “Young Adult Education Program.” This program focuses on teaching young adults information they need to be financially literate. What is unique about the program is that it is taught by a young adult, a college student on a work-study internship from a local university.
Rural Dynamics, (Rural Dynamics is headquartered in Great Falls, MT) “High School Financial Literacy Campaign.” Responding to the lack of financial knowledge and skills among students at an alternative high school, Rural Dynamics has been working with the students and teachers at the school to develop an interactive curriculum tailor’s to the student’s unique needs and learning styles.
CCCS of the North Coast, (CCCS of the North Coast is headquartered in Arcata, CA) “AmeriCorps and The Job Market.” After recruiting an AmeriCorps member to assist with several projects, CCCS of the North Coast was able to form a partnership with another local organization to expand a mentoring program in local schools to include financial literacy education. With some of the grant money funding this effort set to expire, CCCS has figured out a way to continue developing some of the projects that were started.
CCCS of Rochester, (CCCS of Rochester is headquartered in Rochester, NY) “After School Financial Literacy Program.” Working with a local YMCA’s child care center, CCCS of Rochester provides a thirty hour program to groups of 10 to 15 grade school children. The program is an extension of the school day, and assists the children in learning various lessons as well as to develop social skills.
“These programs are a small sampling of the many efforts undertaken everyday in leading consumers to a stronger and healthier financial life by NFCC Member Agencies across the country,” said Susan C. Keating, president and CEO of the NFCC. “By highlighting these and other Agency programs, consumers confronted with the inevitable emergency, will continue to take charge of their financial lives and expand their knowledge.”
