Being part of debt management program with C.C.C.S. is a step toward becoming debt free. While in the process of becoming debt free, we would like to offer a few suggestions to help you save money.

  • How to save money on energy cost during summer months:
Setting your air conditioner at 78 degrees rather than 72 degrees will save up to 30% on your energy costs.

  • How to save money on energy cost during winter months:
Before winter sets in have a certified reputable heating contractor check your furnace to make sure it is in proper working condition. Winterize the doors and windows in your home to save money on heating costs. Call RG&E and have them do an energy audit. They can advise you on what to do to save money on heating costs. Setting your thermostat at a lower setting will decrease your heating costs. Investing in a programmable thermostat for your heating unit can also save you money.

  • Simple steps to pay off your debt faster:
When you receive extra money such as a tax refund or a birthday or holiday gift, apply it toward your debt. Applying extra money to reduce your principal balance will save money on interest charges in the long run.

  • How to Save for your future:
Most people are so focused on paying creditors and household expenses with their monthly income that they forget to pay the most important person, themselves. The next time you receive a paycheck, take out 5% and put it into a savings account. As your budget allows, gradually increase your savings to 10% of your income.

  • Everyday money saving tips:
Instead of using a credit card to purchase an item, use cash, if you don't have the cash, put the item on layaway. Instead of buying lunch at work, brown bag it. Instead of purchasing gifts for Christmas, birthdays and other occasions, prepare a special meal and spend quality time with your loved ones. Sharing of yourself is a great gift. Using public transportation instead of a car is cost effective since it can save you money on gasoline and parking. Carpool with co-workers when possible. Share weekend trips such as grocery shopping and running errands with a friend or neighbor to reduce gasoline costs. Roll down car windows rather than using the A/C whenever possible. Wash clothes in cold water rather than hot. Fix leaky faucets, they can be costly. When shopping for appliances, purchase energy saving appliances. This can save a lot of money in the long run.
